The Carnegie 126 Mile (+ 385 yard!) Challenge

 

The 126 Mile (+385 yard) Challenge involves taking on two endurance feats, one of running, a marathon (26 miles, 385 yards); and one of walking, the annual ‘Hundred’ - 100 mile challenge walk (100 miles in 48 hours) organised by the Long Distance Walkers Association.

 

The idea of the 126 mile Challenge is to complete both these events in the same month, May this year.

 

The Team

 

The challenge will be attempted in May 2009 by: -

 

  • Greg Mulholland MP (MP for Leeds North West 
  • Councillor Ryk Downes (Leeds City Councillor for Otley & Yeadon and a Vice Chair of the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority, Metro)
  • Martin Rivett (member of staff at Leeds Metropolitan University).

 

 The Events

 

The team will be attempting the following events:

·         The Belfast City Marathon - Monday 4 May, 2009  
·         The Wessex 100  - Saturday 23 - Monday 25 May, 2009 

 

 

The Charities

 

The challenge is a charity event and the three participants will be raising money through sponsorship for the following 3 local charities: -

 

  • Wheatfields Hospice in Headingley

  • Kidz in Kampz, based in Holt Park who run camps for orphaned displaced children in the Far East

  • The Wharfedale Hospital Special Medical Equipment Fund which raises money for special medical equipment at the hospital
